Sue Marlene's Story

Life I am now a Jazz singer at different special events such as weddings, conventions, graduation parties, etc. and I am planning to record the new and old famous movie & theatre jazz songs such as: "Summertime, I love you Porgy, People, Maybe This Time, Sunrise, Sunset, etc. Before, I took part in different musical theatre plays such as "Of Thee I Sing" playing the part of Dianna Deveroux at the American Theatre Workshop, "Godspell", "Honesty Challange" and "Fausto" playing the part of "Margaret" which was a great success with excellent comments from the press and specialized magazines. After I finished High School, I began to work for American Express International as a Travel Agent and was able to travel all around Europe at extremely low wages and in the best of classes. I went twice to Saint Moritz, Switzerland, where I learned how to sky and had a wonderful time. I also visited all of the major european cities such as Rome, London, Milan, Brussels, Brugge, Ostende, Paris where I finally lived there for six months and I also worked there during that time translating French correspondance into English. I also made a fantastic trip around the area where the great Greco-Bizantine Culture took place. That is Wien, Prague, Budapest, Bucarest, Sofia, Belgrad, Thesaloniki and Istanbul visiting all of the ancient XI and XII century monasteries, mosques and all of the wonderful ancient buildings of that time because my sister in law was doing her masters degree on the Greco-Bizantine culture. That was really a great experience. Later on, I moved back to Mexico City where I worked for a German company as a trilingual executive secretary but during the weekends, I would sing at parties. I also began to take acting, singing and dancing lessons and took part in different ...Expand for more
musical theatre plays such as: "Of Thee I Sing" playing the part of Dianna Deveroux at the American Theatre Workshop, "Godspell", "Honesty Challange" and "Fausto" playing the part of "Margaret" which was a great success with excellent comments from the press and specialized magazines. During that time, 1984-1985, I met my husband who is of northern italian descent and got married on December 14, 1985. We were happily married for about 8 years but then everything collapsed and we have been separated for more than 11 years now. I took my children to live in the USA so they could experience the American way of life and really learn English very well. So we lived in Wilmette, IL from 1999 until 2003 and then moved back to Mexico City because my mother, who is from Cincinnati, Ohio but loved Mexico and was living here in Mexico City, was very old and I was scared she was going to die soon so I came back to be with her the last years of her life. And so it was. Last April 24th, of 2007 she passed away. But I was so glad I had been close to her the last years of her life, I really did not regret coming back although now I plan to move back to the U.S.A. My children, who are now teenagers, really liked it there and they want to go back. The last job I had there was as an Interpreter-Translator of English-Spanish-English for the Federal Court and Circuit Courts of Chicago, IL where I received wonderful compliments for my performance interpreting and translating. The people who hired me, told me that whenever I go back to Chicago, that the doors are open for me and that I can begin to work as an interpreter-translator the minute I get there. I also love to sing jazz and many people have complimented me and urged me to try to sing professionally again which I am now trying to do.
